☕ COFFEE TRAINING SUCCESS AT TABARE!

Over 50 farmers from Ward 1-8, Tabare LLG successfully completed a 5-day Coffee Husbandry Training at Mani Kul Village (5th-9th Sept 2026)!

Facilitated by Mr. Neville from WCS PNG, with support from MENCERTC Inc.

What we learned:
✅ Sustainable coffee garden management & pruning
✅ Shade & soil fertility management
✅ Harvest ONLY red ripe cherries for premium quality
✅ Forming Tabare Coffee Cooperative
✅ Steps to get certified & access better markets

This is linking conservation with livelihood – better coffee = better income = better forest protection for Mauberema.

Big thank you to WCS PNG (Mr. Neville, Ms. Jescinta & driver Max), our CMC members, Ward Commissioners, and Mani Kul community for hospitality and catering!

Next step: Practical field demos, registering our Cooperative, and building a central pulping facility.

🌱 Building Food Security & Climate Resilience in Tabare LLG, Simbu | MENCERTC | WCS-PNG

Proud to share that our communities in Tabare LLG (Wards 1-8) have completed a 4-day life-skills training on food security, downstream processing, and long-term storage — through our long-term partnership with Wildlife Conservation Society PNG.

Amid the Super El Niño crisis affecting food supply chains and crop yields, this training is timely. Communities are learning to turn local garden produce into value-added products that can be stored for up to 3 years — ensuring no family goes hungry during disaster periods.

Key skills gained:
✅ Climate change & food security preparedness
✅ Food processing & 3-year storage techniques
✅ Protein-rich animal feed from crop by-products
✅ Seed saving & 10+ year propagation methods
✅ Local, eco-friendly pesticide production
✅ Garden management for higher yield on less land

Community outputs: Banana flour, cassava flour, kaukau flour, corn flour, bean flour, carrot powder, turmeric — transformed into cakes, biscuits, doughnuts and more.

Huge thank you to our trainer Jacinta Yani for empowering our communities with practical, lasting skills.

This is localization of conservation — linking biodiversity, food security, and livelihoods.
