But remember, there is always a light at the end of a tunnel for those who dare to hope for change and progress. It is wise to bear in mind that as long as a new suit breaks through humanity there will always be hope for a new beginning! Inspiring the next generation!

As part of the Divine Word University 30th Anniversary Festival of Legacy and Vision, the University proudly presented a Token of Appreciation to the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Hon. James Marape, and his wife, Mrs. Rachael Marape, a proud Divine Word University alumna, during the Alumni Foundation Day celebrations.

The presentation was made in recognition of their valued support, leadership, and contributions to the development of education and nation-building in Papua New Guinea. The University also acknowledged Mrs. Marape's continued connection to her alma mater and her role as an inspiration to current students and fellow alumni.

The occasion highlighted the strong bond between Divine Word University and its graduates, celebrating the achievements of alumni who continue to make positive contributions to society while upholding the University's vision, mission, and values.

CONGRATULATIONS TO FR PHILIP GIBBS SVD ON BECOMING A CITIZEN OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA 🇵🇬

The Papua New Guinea Union of Catholic Students (PNG UCS) extends its warmest and most heartfelt congratulations to Fr Philip Gibbs SVD, President of Divine Word University (DWU), on the significant occasion of becoming a citizen of Papua New Guinea.

This is a truly special and historic milestone, not only for Fr Philip personally, but also for the many people, communities, students, academics, Church leaders and organisations whose lives have been positively touched by his long and dedicated service to Papua New Guinea.

For many years, Fr Philip Gibbs SVD has been more than a priest, academic, educator and university leader. He has become a respected member of the wider Papua New Guinean community. Through his ministry, scholarship, leadership and service, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to the people of Papua New Guinea and to the values of faith, education, justice, peace, reconciliation and human dignity.

His journey of service reflects the spirit of the Society of the Divine Word, whose mission is centred on serving communities, particularly through education, evangelisation, social development and the promotion of human dignity. His contribution to Papua New Guinea has been particularly significant through his association with Divine Word University, an institution that continues to educate and prepare young Papua New Guineans to become leaders in their communities, professions, Church and nation.

A CELEBRATION OF BELONGING

Becoming a citizen is much more than receiving a legal status. It represents a profound relationship with a country, its people, cultures, history, aspirations and future.

For Fr Philip Gibbs SVD, this occasion is a celebration of a long-standing relationship with Papua New Guinea. It symbolises a journey of belonging, service and commitment that has developed over many years.

Papua New Guinea is a country of extraordinary cultural diversity, with hundreds of languages, traditions, communities and identities. To serve in such a nation requires respect, humility, patience and a willingness to listen and learn from its people.

Fr Philip has demonstrated these qualities throughout his years of ministry and leadership. His engagement with Papua New Guinean communities has enabled him to understand and appreciate the richness of the country's cultures and the aspirations of its people.

His citizenship therefore provides an opportunity for Papua New Guineans to celebrate not simply an individual achievement, but a relationship built through years of service and friendship.

A ROLE MODEL FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

The Papua New Guinea Union of Catholic Students is particularly pleased to extend this congratulations because Fr Philip's work has had a strong connection with young people and education.

Students are the future of Papua New Guinea. They will become teachers, nurses, doctors, lawyers, engineers, administrators, researchers, entrepreneurs, community leaders, politicians, priests, religious leaders and professionals.

The leadership of people such as Fr Philip Gibbs SVD reminds students that education is not simply about obtaining qualifications. Education should also form character, encourage responsibility and inspire people to serve their communities.

As President of Divine Word University, Fr Philip carries an important responsibility in shaping an institution that contributes to the intellectual, spiritual, professional and social development of Papua New Guinea.

The PNG UCS recognises and appreciates the importance of this contribution.

We encourage Catholic students throughout Papua New Guinea to continue embracing education as a pathway to service. We must use our knowledge, skills and opportunities not only for personal advancement but also for the advancement of our families, communities, Church and nation.

Papua New Guinea needs leaders and citizens who believe in the country's future.

The nation faces many challenges, including poverty, inequality, limited access to quality education and healthcare, unemployment, corruption, social conflict and the effects of rapid social and economic change. Addressing these challenges requires people who are prepared to serve with integrity, courage and compassion.

The contribution of educators and Church leaders is therefore extremely important.

Fr Philip's work demonstrates how education, faith and social responsibility can come together to create positive change. His leadership at DWU contributes to the development of a generation of Papua New Guineans who can participate meaningfully in building the nation.

His citizenship comes at a time when Papua New Guinea needs unity and cooperation more than ever.

Former adult film star Jenna Jameson says she has been baptized and is now publicly sharing her Christian faith to encourage others to “find Jesus.”

The 51-year-old, once known as the “Queen of Porn,” described her conversion as “switching sides” after decades of being defined by “my body and sin.” She urged her followers to “Crack the Bible … you won’t regret it.”

Jameson said she is speaking openly because many broken people desire Christ but fear being judged. “I am unafraid,” she wrote, adding that “the broken are the most important to him.” She also compared herself to the biblical woman at the well and said returning to faith has given her peace and strength she “never knew” she had.

“I am being loud and proud about my walk with Jesus Christ,” Jameson said, stressing that her testimony shows people “they are not irredeemable.”

AN URGENT APPEAL TO VILLAGE LEADERS, COUNCILLORS AND MAGISTRATES

To all Village Leaders, Councillors, Magistrates, Community Leaders and Elders:
We make this strong and sincere appeal to you as leaders entrusted with the welfare, peace and future of your people.
As elections approach, political candidates will come into our communities seeking your support. Some may offer money, vehicles, food, gifts or other material benefits in exchange for your loyalty and the votes of your people. I urge you: do not allow yourselves or your communities to be bought.
Your position as a leader carries a sacred responsibility. You must look beyond the money that may be placed in your hands today and consider what kind of future you are creating for your children and grandchildren.
A few thousand kina, a vehicle or any other gift cannot be compared with the value of peace, lives, unity, land and the future of an entire community.
When leaders accept money or favours in exchange for political support, they may later find it extremely difficult to say NO when the same people demand support for actions that are wrong, divisive or destructive. What begins with money can eventually lead to pressure, manipulation, political violence, tribal division and destruction.
Do not sell your conscience.
Do not sell the future of your people.
Do not allow political money to purchase the silence or loyalty of your community.
Let the people choose freely.
Every citizen has the right to listen to candidates, examine their policies and character, and freely decide who deserves their vote. Leaders should not intimidate, manipulate or force people to support a particular candidate because money or gifts have been received.
Our communities need leaders who will stand firm and say:
“Our people are not for sale. Our votes are not for sale. Our peace is not for sale.”
If a candidate gives you money, ask yourself: What will this person expect from me later? If the price of the gift is your conscience, your loyalty, your people's freedom or their peace, then the price is far too high.
Let us remember that elections come and go, but our communities remain. Political candidates may disappear after elections, but our people must continue living together. We must continue sharing our land, raising our children, attending our churches, working together and resolving our differences.
Therefore, we appeal especially to village leaders, councillors and magistrates: protect your people from political manipulation. Do not become instruments through which candidates buy communities and create divisions. Instead, become guardians of peace, justice, freedom and unity.
Encourage your people to hear all candidates fairly. Encourage them to ask questions. Encourage them to examine the candidates' character, record, policies and commitment to the common good. Above all, allow every person to make his or her own decision freely.
Do not allow money today to become tomorrow's destruction.
Let us choose leaders not because of what they can give us personally, but because of what they can contribute to the wellbeing of our communities, our province and our nation.
Let us choose peace over money.
Let us choose unity over division.
Let us choose integrity over personal gain.
Let us choose the future of our children over temporary political gifts.
Our people deserve a free choice. Our communities deserve peace. Our nation deserves leaders who are chosen freely and honestly.
May every village leader, councillor and magistrate have the courage to stand firm against political manipulation and protect the freedom, dignity and peace of the people entrusted to their care.
Do not sell the future of your people for today's gifts. Let the people choose freely.
