The Sololo community in Milne Bay Province has signed its forest agreement with Cool Earth for the eighth consecutive year. A total of 94 people were present to sign the agreement. The signing took place on 30th of April 2026 in Sololo village.
The aim of this Forest Conservation Agreement Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is to develop projects which help local people reduce deforestation and therefore reduce the global impact of climate change. π³πΏ
After the signing, the community will receive annual funding of approximately K66,000.
Sololo has been in partnership with Cool Earth since 2018.
As part of the agreement, the community pledged not to sell their forest resources to logging, mining, or oil palm companies.π
