Fr. Thomas Ritchie OFM R.I.P

Dear Friars and Sisters

Peace and good. By now, you have heard the news that Fr Tom Ritchie died peacefully in St Joseph’s Aged Care Home, Kensington (Sydney) NSW, on Monday afternoon 27 October 2025 around 2.30pm Sydney time - 1.30pm PNG time). Tom had been quite low in the previous few days and was receiving palliative care to manage the dying process comfortably. Several Sydney friars visited him in the morning (Monday) – Arthur Boland led some prayers at Tom’s bedside and prayed over him; the friars then said the Rosary. It was only a few hours after their visit that Tom greeted Sister Death. Though Tom was unconscious when the friars visited, the Sister-in-charge reminded the friars that the sense of hearing is usually the last to fail and that Tom would have been aware of their “voices of fraternity lifting their prayer to God on his behalf”.
