For nearly 50 years, the Fromm Institute at the University of San Francisco has been a national leader in lifelong learning, helping adults remain intellectually engaged, socially connected, and inspired throughout their lives. Founded in 1976, the Fromm Institute was among the earliest programs in the United States dedicated to lifelong learning for adults age 50 and older. Located on the vibrant
and intergenerational USF campus, Fromm created a model of community-based learning that has helped shape lifelong learning programs across the country and around the world. Through dynamic courses in literature, history, politics, science, film, and the arts, the Fromm Institute provides a welcoming academic community where curiosity continues to thrive long after traditional college years. More than a classroom experience, Fromm fosters friendships, intellectual exploration, and a lasting sense of purpose. Research consistently shows that staying mentally and socially active improves well-being, strengthens cognitive health, and reduces isolation. By bringing adults together through learning and community, the Fromm Institute helps extend not only lifespan, but health span, empowering older adults to live fuller, healthier, and more connected lives.
