Research: Fauna Forever’s research teams have been collecting species data in Peru’s Madre de Dios region since 1997. As part of this work, we are identifying, researching and reducing human impacts on wildlife in the region. We share our data freely with land owners, policy makers, NGOs and businesses to encourage everyone to take a stake in conserving this crucial area. Community Development: Fauna Forever works closely with eight local native and mestizo communities assisting them with natural resource management plans, ecotourism and other green-business development objectives, education and healthcare projects, and environmental monitoring initiatives to help understanding vertebrate biodiversity levels in community-managed tropical forests. Education: Fauna Forever has trained and encouraged over 400 volunteers and interns from over 30 countries worldwide. We run environmental education programs at local schools and advanced wildlife research training courses in the field. We are teaching, motivating and inspiring the next generation of Neotropical ecologists, scientists and conservationists. We also host Secondary school groups from across the world, with the aim of sharing our local knowledge with the all-important international youth. Conservation: Fauna Forever is committed to protecting the Madre de Dios forests and their spectacular biological diversity. We meet our commitments by collaborating with the private, government and voluntary sectors, by compiling and sharing information, and by directly conserving wide expanses of land in this hugely important part of the world.
