Manu is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, but it's under threat. Poverty and population growth drive people to destroy the rainforest through logging, farming and mining. To save Manu, sustainability has to be a realistic choice for impoverished communities. Through conservation research, environmental education and sustainable livelihoods we're working on the solution. We believe that t

he people of Manu must determine their own future. Our role is to simply provide greater choice, so that they are empowered to drive social, economic and environmental change within their own communities. Sustainability must not only become possible, it must be the best way of meeting communities' needs. By visiting Manu rainforest with Crees – as a volunteer, intern, or ecotourist – you become a vital part of the solution.

Manu Learning Centre - a pioneering sustainable lodge connecting visitors on rainforest adventures with conservationists.

Since 2005, the Manu Learning Centre (MLC) has been a hub for scientific research on the importance of biodiversity and ecosystem conservation within the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Manu Biosphere Reserve.

Some 5 years after it opened its doors to researchers both locals and from around the globe, the MLC began to host the friends and families of visiting researchers. These first extended family friends all agreed that the MLC was a place where so much learning and discovery was occurring everyday, it would be great to share that with more people.

Since 2010, we receive over 500 guests ever year, ranging from budding scientists just embarking on their academic careers to university professors, couples in search of new adventures who want to explore more than a tour and hotel, families who want their kids to tangibly engage in nature and experience the beauty of the Amazon without having to rough it too much.

It’s a home away from home, with just enough creature comforts (hot water, wifi, great food, a cold beer) to put your mind at ease without losing the sensation of living in a harmonious way with the forest. The constant hum of research provides visitors opportunities to learn from field staff on long term biodiversity monitoring projects all about the wonderful plants and animals in Manu.
