In the design of Agroforestry Systems (AFS), each species plays a specific technical role. Ferns in the lower strata are not merely aesthetic elements but critical microclimate regulators that help maintain the stability of shade-grown crops.

Their ability to retain moisture and reduce the soil temperatures by 2°C and 4°C optimizes water use and protects the roots of primary crops during periods of water stress. Moreover, their presence serves as an bioindicator of environmental quality and soil health in our projects.

🌱At Sembrando Peru, we apply environmental engineering principles to develop resilient production systems, where biodiversity forms the foundation of technical excellence in agriculture.

Ecological restoration is more than simply planting trees. It’s an environmental engineering process aimed at restoring functionality to critical ecosystems. We share the results of our intervention in habitats of threatened species, where technical accuracy has been key to success.
An 85% survival rate has been achieved in plantations through the controlled removal of invasive species and the reintroduction of native flora. This endeavor has resulted in 15 bird species finding shelter and food in previously degraded areas. At Sembrando Peru, our management is guided by evidence. Every hectare restored is a measurable indicator of our commitment to biodiversity and the country’s real sustainability.

Pollination: The Value of Bees’ Ecosystem Service

Pollination is not just a biological process; it is a regulating ecosystem service that acts as an invisible economic multiplier. 🚜🐝 In Peru, the stability of key sectors such as agro-exports and smallholder farming depends on the health of our bees.

According to Law No. 32235, beekeeping is recognized as strategic for food security. Without pollinators, we do not only lose biodiversity, we lose competitiveness and productivity in critical crops such as coffee and blueberries. 🌎🔬

The use of reptiles as bioindicators allows for precise data on ecosystem health without relying exclusively on costly chemical analyses. Due to their physiology and environmental dependence, these species act as biological sentinels for heavy metal contamination and thermal stress driven by climate change.🌡️🌍

📌 According to the IUCN (2024), nearly half of the world’s reptiles face critical risks, highlighting the urgency of integrating biological monitoring into environmental management plans.

In Peru, monitoring species such as the common caiman or the yellow-spotted Amazon river turtle is essential for assessing the integrity of Amazonian basins and the effectiveness of conservation measures. The presence and stability of these populations are not only indicators of biodiversity, but also metrics of the quality of air, soil, and water on which local communities and regional productive balance depend. 🍃💧

Did you know that 20% of harvested wood in Peru is obtained illegally ? 🪵⚠️ This problem is strictly caused by the critical degradation of Aguajales in our Amazon region.

The illegal extraction of these resources in regions such as Loreto, Ucayali, and Madre de Dios not only violates the legal framework, but also disrupts the balance of ecosystems that are vital for water regulation and carbon capture.

To stop this damage, a strong public administration that integrates enforcement with high-impact forest restoration strategies is needed. Restoring the functionality of these palm forests is an essential step toward climate resilience in our region. 🏛️🌎

Is it possible to achieve sustainable agriculture without prioritizing the physical integrity of farmers? 🩺🌱

In the context of World Health Day, we would like to highlight those who feed our country: our local farmers. Working in the field is physically challenging and can expose you to risks that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Investing in prevention is the most valuable contribution to the future of rural Peruvian families. 🚜💪
