Our next scheduled medical trip to the Napo River villages will be October 12 - 19, 2026. We have places for both medical and non-medical volunteers who would like to provide healthcare in the jungle setting, as well as have an amazing adventure. Thanks to our generous donors, we were once again able to provide eye surgeries including lodging, food, transport and medicines for additional patients from the Napo villages. Surgeries were performed in Iquitos at the Ana Stahl Clinic by their surgeons, as well as surgeons from the NGO Chosen and the Ñahui clinic in Lima. Here the patients who have been screened are waiting for surgery the next day.

Our volunteers did a health care campaign with the Municipality of Mazan (town in the jungle). Hundreds of children participated in dental classes with new toothbrushes and paste, and all received fluoride on their teeth.

Nursing student Thalia Lebiau Salas has only 7 more months in her program. She is one of our scholarship students in the DB Peru Norma Louise Stainsby Memorial Scholarship Program. Graduation is in December. You can do it, Thalia!

Making preparations for our next health care trip to the Napo River villages April 5. Our dates were changed due to Presidential elections in Peru April 12. Voting is mandatory in Peru so the people in the villages will have to travel to the nearest town to vote. A big thank you to our dedicated volunteers who made changes in their travel plans so we could deliver care before the election.

There is still time to sign up for the jungle trips April 8 - 16 and April 22 - 29. We are looking for both medical and non-medical volunteers to help with the work focused on medical care and education. We would like to give a special note of thanks to Scott Dennis who has donated thousands of reading glasses over that last 15 years to DB Peru. He graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Sociology in 1982. As a certified Community Health Worker and Diabetes Prevention Educator, he has worked for the past 23 years to help people with different intellectual ability’s find work, start businesses and live healthy lifestyles. For the past 25 years he has operated a small wholesale eyewear business which he started due to his desire to contribute to international efforts such as DB Peru. Scott is a quiet hero making a difference in so many people's lives.
