Gene therapy is transforming how inherited retinal diseases can be treated, offering new hope for people living with conditions such as retinitis pigmentosa, Stargardt's disease and Usher syndrome. 🧬

At CERA, Dr Jiang-Hui (Sloan) Wang is establishing a Vision Vector Core to engineer the next generation of viral vectors, the essential carriers that transport therapeutic genes directly to cells in the eye.

Many inherited retinal diseases take hold in cells deep within the retina, making treatment delivery one of the biggest challenges in developing new therapies. To address this, Dr Wang is developing advanced vectors engineered to reach these cells through a less invasive injection, improving both how effectively and safely gene therapies can target the cells that need them.

By carrying corrective therapies safely and effectively to the right cells, this research aims to open the door to treatments for inherited retinal diseases that have so far been out of reach.
