Esmee Baken (Esmee Baken) was a long-term biology intern at RAREC, staying for over 5 months. During her time here, she completed an impressive research project on our troop of 11 white-bellied spider monkeys. The results she found provided us with important information on their potential for release.

RAREC offers unique opportunities for students looking to gain real-life experience working with and studying wildlife. We are very excited about the results of this project and the potential release of this troop in the future. Thank you for your time and dedication to RAREC, Esmee!

Amigos de Iquitos ❤️🐱

Hoy quiero pedirles una ayudita de corazón.
Hace unas semanas dejaron abandonados en nuestra puerta a estos tres gatitos preciosos, dos hembritas y un machito. Llegaron muy desnutridos y en malas condiciones, pero los recibimos, los atendimos y, gracias a Dios, hoy ya están estables y recuperándose muy bien. 🙏

Ahora necesitamos encontrarles algo todavía más importante: una familia en Iquitos que los ame, los cuide y les dé un hogar para toda la vida. ❤️
Por favor, ayúdennos compartiendo esta publicación. Tal vez entre sus amigos, familiares o conocidos esté esa persona especial que pueda cambiarles la vida.

🌿 Inspiring the Next Generation of Conservationists! 💚

We recently had the opportunity to speak with Dragon Planet Robotics (75407), a FIRST LEGO League team from the United States made up of four students ages 9–11.

As part of their 2026–2027 BIOGLOW project, they are learning about ecosystems, biodiversity, and how technology can help protect our planet. 🌎🤖

We were happy to share our experience working in the Amazon rainforest and answer their questions about wildlife, conservation, rainforest challenges, and ways people can help protect these ecosystems.

It was wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm! We believe that sharing real experiences can inspire the next generation of scientists, veterinarians, conservationists, and environmental advocates. 🐾💚

Are you a school, student group, or young people working on a project related to wildlife, the Amazon, or conservation? We would be happy to connect and offer a virtual talk or Q&A session to share our experience from the field! 🌿

On International Primate Day, we continue to raise awareness about primate conservation 🐒💜

Ice enrichment for the juvenile woollies 🧊

This is the perfect enrichment for a hot day during dry season in the Amazon rainforest! Our caretaker team freezes fruits or vegetables into water overnight, and provides them to various primates the next day. It piques their curiosity and allows the troop to work together to get their food.

Beach day 🏝️

The otter is enjoying her beach in the new outdoor enclosure! We are thrilled to see her enjoying life outside and becoming bigger and stronger each day. We look forward to continuing her rehabilitation process and helping her return to the wild, where she belongs.

Andy 🐒💜

A juvenile white-bellied spider monkey here at RAREC, Andy is very playful and energetic. We are thrilled to see him healthy and growing stronger each day. Our team is working hard to give Andy and the rest of his troop another chance in the wild.
