Service Week 🌎
Last week, students had a few days off from school, and we planned an entire week of service to our community as one piece of our long-term commitment to spiritual formation, positioning students to grow in their understanding of what it means to love their neighbor and adopt the attitude of Christ, one of humility and selflessness, remembering Christ’s words from Acts 20:35, that it is more blessed, or in other words, it is more happy, more joyful, more content, to give than to receive.
Many years ago, before COVID, we hosted a Service Day once a month with our students. An alum from our program once shared that Refuge of Hope helped shape her understanding of what it means to serve others and cultivated in her a heart for helping her community. We’re happy to relaunch this opportunity as we disciple children and teens to know God and make Him known.
One of our groups cleaned the entire park outside our ministry center. And, yes! In our community, it is completely normal to sweep the dusty soccer courts with brooms to clean off accumulated dust from the hills surrounding Huaycan. Of course, our students were supervised and safe with protective gear.
