Education is of little importance there. Peru is among the richest countries in South America and second from the bottom for the amount of money the government puts toward education. Over 80% of the population live at or below the poverty level. Most of this 80% are subsistence farmers. The average yearly wage is about $ 2800.00. The average family size per household is 5.1. There are few jobs for

this segment of the population and as you already know ... EDUCATION is the Key to breaking the cycle of poverty. Many of the country's teachers have little training and no teaching degrees or certifications. Teach a Teacher brings volunteer teachers to Peru to provide Professional Development and provide teachers basic teaching skills. We need you to volunteer, we need to donate. Donations will be used in several specific ways; to fund interpreters for our volunteer teachers, purchase some teaching materials, set up a scholarship program to defer cost for some of the volunteer teachers and operations. For many of you that know me personally, know that I have always helped others, volunteered, and been active in the community. At this juncture of my life I have found what I believe is possibly the most difficult challenge of my life ... helping Educate and Improve the quality of life here in Peru. I can do it with your help. We can make a difference in real lives.
