¡Conoce a la ponente plenaria Omayra Casamá!

Omayra Casamá es una líder emberá, educadora, trabajadora social y defensora del liderazgo de las mujeres indígenas, la preservación cultural y el bienestar comunitario en Panamá.

Durante más de tres décadas, ha trabajado para promover los derechos indígenas, fortalecer las oportunidades para las mujeres y los jóvenes, y preservar la lengua, la cultura y los conocimientos ancestrales emberá. Como líder pionera dentro de su comunidad, ha ayudado a tender puentes entre el conocimiento indígena y las instituciones públicas, al tiempo que ha defendido la educación, el empoderamiento de las mujeres y el desarrollo impulsado por la comunidad.

En la Cumbre SBCC 2026, Casamá compartirá su perspectiva sobre los enfoques locales, ancestrales y culturales de la comunicación para el cambio social y de comportamiento, basándose en décadas de experiencia en la promoción de soluciones arraigadas en el conocimiento indígena, la identidad cultural y el bienestar colectivo.

Meet Plenary Speaker Omayra Casamá!

Omayra Casamá is an Emberá leader, educator, social worker and advocate for Indigenous women's leadership, cultural preservation and community well-being in Panama.

For more than three decades, she has worked to advance Indigenous rights, strengthen opportunities for women and youth, and preserve Emberá language, culture and ancestral knowledge. A pioneering leader within her community, she has helped build bridges between Indigenous knowledge and public institutions while championing education, women's empowerment and community-led development.

At the 2026 SBCC Summit, Casamá will share her perspective on local, ancestral and cultural approaches to social and behavior change communication, drawing on decades of experience advancing solutions rooted in Indigenous knowledge, cultural identity and collective well-being.

At the 2026 International Social and Behavior Change Communication Summit, Silvio Waisbord will join a plenary session examining these pressing issues and their implications for evidence-based, rights-centered social and behavior change communication.

Waisbord is a professor at George Washington University, past president of the International Communication Association, editor of the International Journal of Communication and author/editor of 20 books, including Introduction to Journalism: Thinking Globally (2025).
