Today marks Panama’s National Mourning Day, a time to remember the lives lost during the 1989 U.S. invasion of Panama. On December 20, 1989, Operation « Just Cause » was launched, leading to the deaths of around 300 Panamanian soldiers and 214 civilians. This day serves as an opportunity to reflect on the profound impact of the invasion on the country and honor those who perished.
🌿 In this context, the Orchid catasetum viridflavum stands as a symbol of resilience and hope. With its vibrant green and yellow colors and unique form, this orchid can be found in the rainforest of Central America, including Panama’s rainforest regions and here on our campus, contributing to both the beauty and the biodiversity of the Mamoní Valley.
This stunning bloom serves as a powerful reminder of nature’s resilience and its ability to endure through difficult conditions.

Hoy se conmemora el Día de Duelo Nacional de Panamá, un momento para recordar las vidas perdidas durante la invasión de Panamá por parte de Estados Unidos en 1989. El 20 de diciembre se lanzó la Operación «Causa Justa», que resultó en la muerte de aproximadamente 300 soldados panameños y 214 civiles. Este día sirve para reflexionar sobre el profundo impacto de la invasión en el país y honrar a aquellos que perdieron la vida.
