The Oman Green Building Centre has been under consideration with the World Green Building Council since 2009. The aim has been to establish a non-profit, non-governmental organization that aims to promote, endorse and support green building solutions within the Sultanate of Oman. After an initial hurdle in incorporating as a non-profit organization, OGBC signed an MOU with the Oman Society of Engi
neers; the leading non-governmental organization that seeks to support the development of Oman through regulating engineering best practice. In 2012 a core founding team was created consisting of a strong group of technical and motivated like minded individuals. These comprised leaders in the energy and power sectors, environmental consultancy, real estate developers, architects and engineers, all affluent and respected members of the property and construction industry in Oman. United in the vision to improve the built environment through promotion of green building solutions. This strong founding group has progressed through the stages of development and with considered planning in preparation is moving towards an engaging and memorable launch to the Oman GBC which will proudly place Oman amongst the MENA region’s exemplary GBC’s.
