Do you add HIIT or plyometric training into your workouts?! πŸ”₯
High intensity intervals and plyometrics are so beneficial for everyone, but especially as we get older to help with many things, including….

Improved cardiovascular health. Repeated high intensity bursts help to improve your cardiac output (the amount of blood you can pump per minute), decrease your resting blood pressure and boost your VOβ‚‚ max (amount of oxygen you can utilise per minute).

Increased insulin sensitivity. HIIT training improves your muscle glucose uptake (decreased type 2 diabetes risk).

Strengthens bones, ligaments and tendons due to the higher forces involved. So, so important for preventing injuries and then falls and breaks as we age.

Improves brain health. High intensity work boosts BDNF (brain derived neurotrophic factor) which is important for memory and learning.

Picks up your mood! Short, intense sessions trigger endorphin release which can help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.

And bonus! It's incredibly time efficient, so you csn fit this style of workout in when you're pushed for time. Try to add this into your training routine 1-2 times weekly and let us know how you go πŸ‘

Goodbye Monica πŸ‘‹ πŸ₯Ή
We have such a wonderful base of long standing members who contribute to the friendly, community feeling here at The Well.
Monica has been training with Jen since before Jen had children, and her oldest is now 17!!!!
And more recently with Alaina, who has supported her through recovery from foot surgery.
Monica is moving to Wanaka (not jealous at all πŸ˜…) and we wish her a happy, healthy and fit retirement....we will sure miss her!

We love seeing our members enjoying training together, chatting a bit, encouraging each other and generally having FUN moving their bodies...Last photo of a wonderful group of ladies who have become friends just through gyming together πŸ’›

Your ability to balance isn't just about avoiding a stumble - it's a powerful marker of overall health!

Your balance reflects how well your muscles, joints, brain, inner ear and nervous system are working together. When that system is strong, you can move with confidence, react quickly and reduce risk of injury and falls - one of the biggest threats to our independence as we age.

Putting on and off your socks and shoes without falling or holding anything is not silly, it's a great benchmark of where you are at, and a consistent habit you can maintain your whole life.

Maintaining balance means staying strong and confident for life πŸ™ŒπŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ

Give this a go if you don't do it already, and if you need to start more basic than this, and aren't sure where, reach out to us for a private session.

A few wee snippets from the gym lately πŸ™Œ

Featuring lots of strong women deadlifting, the BioCircuit being well loved, Alaina having very sweaty saunas, and the vibes in the gym being relaxed and yet hard working πŸ’ͺ

We love the environment and community we have created, and we love to see our members, and especially our ladies, lifting heavy πŸ‹β€β™€οΈ

Jane, one of our amazing practitioners here at The Well, is a yoga therapist.
What is that you ask?!

Yoga therapy is a whole body-mind educational approach to self-care and optimal health for each individual, based on their needs, desires and aspirations.

A session may include postural assessment, movement repatterning, breath coaching, Ayurvedic massage and other body work, mobility and stability components to relieve pain, improve range of movement and body-mind awareness - learning how to be in your body.

Jane emphasises ease over effort and can help clients to balance strength with efficiency. The tools taught can help with management of chronic health conditions, including stress and anxiety support.

She comes from 30+ years in various medical fields and has integrated western and Eastern medicine into her practice as a yoga therapist for the last 10 years.

The shoulders are designed to move - to reach, lift, push, pull, and support us in everyday life but they’re also one of the most common places people experience pain, stiffness, and recurring injury.

That’s because healthy shoulder function isn’t just about flexibility or strength alone. It requires a balance of mobility and stability, supported by good coordination between the thoracic spine (mid spine), scapula (shoulder blade), and glenohumeral (shoulder) joint. When these structures work together, movement feels smooth, strong and effortless. When they don’t, the body compensates, often through the neck, upper back or arms.
