In the early 1960's the Community of Woodville first talked about building a Marae, and in 1976 the land in Tay Street was finally purchased. At the Hastings Court on the 25th Day of January 1983 the lands were set apart for the purpose of a Marae for the common use and benefit of the Community of Woodville. After many more years of fundraising, grants, donations, true dedicatio

n and aroha Te Ahu A Turanga Marae was finally completed and was officially opened on 5th March 1994. Sadly over the years, many of the people who had been involved have passed on but the little seed they planted has grown into a truly beautiful asset to Woodville. The Kawa for the Marae is Nga Hau E Wha of Woodville. Te Ahu A Turanga Marae is not a Iwi Marae but a Multi Cultural Marae built by the people for the Community of Woodville and is available to everyone for hire.
