We're inviting everyone to our Matariki Kontiki/Drone & Surfcasting Competition on Saturday, 11th July 2026.

As Matariki rises in mid-winter, we get a special opportunity. Cloud cover allowing, look to the northeastern horizon just before sunrise to see Matariki come into view as a small, pulsating collection of stars. Also known as the Pleiades star cluster, it can be identified by the seven star ‘sisters’.
Want to find it on competition morning?
First, find the three bright stars in a line known as Tautoru (Orion's Belt).
Next, trace to the left until you find a pyramid-shaped group of stars called Te Kokotā.
Finally, look just to the left of Te Kokotā, and you will see Matariki.
What better way to honour this occasion than by experiencing the best of Matarangi? Come down to the beach, try your luck at landing a great catch, and soak in the breathtaking sunrise as Matariki watches over. It's the perfect way to start the day!
