Last weekend members from our group spent the weekend attending the Waikato SAREX in Pirongia; training alongside Police and other Land Search and Rescue volunteers from the Waikato region.

Saturday’s workshops and exercises were a great opportunity to build knowledge and share experiences while Sunday’s scenario brought everything together; teams working through a realistic urban search situation.

It was a busy weekend, so this was the only photo I managed to get - a glimpse into some of the technology we’re learning to use, including night vision and thermal equipment that helps search teams operate safely and effectively at dusk, dawn and after dark.

Our first training of the year - what a team!

Land Search and Rescue is built on volunteers who give their time to train, to respond, and to work together when it matters most.

Training nights like this sharpen our skills, strengthen our teamwork, and make sure we’re ready when the call comes in.

If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now’s the time. We’re looking for practical, level-headed people who care about their community and are willing to step up when it counts.

Land Search and Rescue volunteers are ready to respond when someone doesn’t come home.

We go where others can’t, for people we’ve never met — because every search is someone’s loved one waiting to be found.
