What started as a wet and gloomy day at TS DIOMEDE soon turned around, with the weather clearing up and giving our cadets the perfect opportunity to get out on the water!

Cadets got stuck into some practical seamanship activities, including pulling and working together as a crew, before heading ashore to tackle some hands-on rigging and mast construction. 🪢⛵️

This weekend HMNZS Taupō stopped by Whangārei ⚓️ Giving our cadets a chance to talk to the crew and see the ship up close for a guided ship visit. Thank you to those who shared their knowledge, and gave our cadets an inside look at careers that interest them on board. 🛟🛥️

TS DIOMEDE was proud to host two distinguished guests this evening, our ASO LTCDR Gilbert during his termly unit visit, and LT Rudolph RNZNR, XO Northern Support Unit Naval Reserves.

Both shared valuable insights from their experiences in the NZCF/NZDF, giving our cadets a better understanding and inspiration for their own journeys whatever they may choose.

A big thank you to LTCDR Gilbert and LT Rudolph for your taking the time out of your night to be here.

🌿Anzac Day 2026 🌿

Today we take the time today to pause, reflect, and commemorate the courage, sacrifice, and service of all those who have served in conflicts past and present. From the shores of Gallipoli to peacekeeping missions around the world, their spirit lives on in the values we uphold.

Although the Whangārei Anzac Day Dawn Service may have been cancelled due to weather concerns, we all still arrived for the Maunu Cemetery Service ready to pay tribute. Well done to the cadets who held prominent roles and thank you to all the parents/caregivers who managed to make arrangements on such short notice.

Ka maumahara tātou ki a rātou.
We Will Remember Them.

Unfortunately the Anzac Day Dawn Service has been cancelled.

The Whangārei Returned and Services’ Association regrets to inform the community that due to safety concerns and adverse weather conditions, the 6:00 am Dawn Service at Laurie Hall Park, Whangārei, has been cancelled.

The 10:00 am service at Maunu Cemetery is expected to proceed, but will remain subject to weather conditions on the day.

This decision follows advice received from the Whangarei District Council, Met Service, and Civil Defense regarding the uncertainty of the weather. The final decision has been made by the Whangarei RSA.

Thank you for your understanding.

The Whangārei RSA
