Pictured here, member Mark Komene Stowers alongside Kara Sir Bom Gillies, the last surviving 28th Māori Battalion member, as part of The Te Kapehu Whetū contingent that traveled to Italy to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the battle at Monte Cassino during World War II. The event marked a significant moment in history, bringing together iwi from across the motu to honour those who fought in the battle eight decades ago.

The second photo captures the moment when Hātea visited Monte Cassino in 2016 to pay our respects.

A snippet of the Last Post played by Mario Kake, at the ANZAC service held at Pehiāweri Marae this morning.

E kore rātou e kaumātuatia
Pēnei i a tātou kua mahue nei

E kore hoki rātou e ngoikore, ahakoa pehea i ngā āhuatanga o te wā

I te hekenga atu o Te rā, tae noa ki te arangamai i te ata

Ka maumahara tonu tātou ki a rātou!

Ka maumahara tonu tātou ki a rātou!
