It's 1920s Paris and composer, Maurice Ravel is at the height of his fame. But he's facing growing pressure from critics that his recent works lack emotion and sensuality.

Enter the bohemian choreographer, Ida Rubinstein. She commissions Ravel to write a steamy new score for her latest ballet. Something bold yet sensual.

Intimidated but intrigued, the mild-mannered Ravel agrees, little realising this project will launch him into creative purgatory. The process becomes one of navigating his own self-doubt as the ever-fastidious Ravel slowly creates the piece that will become his calling card.

“This is a compassionate portrait of creative's process and struggle, with a lead performance just as meticulous as a Ravel composition.” - Gazettely

Our next film night is on Thursday, 7th May in the Capitaine Bougainville Theatre at Forum North.

At 6pm, WFS will screen the multi award-winning drama of a small town and its love of music during WW1, written by Alan Bennett and starring Ralph Fiennes, The Choral.

THE CHORAL
UK, 2025, Drama, 113 mins, Rated M

Writer: Alan Bennett
Director: Nicholas Hytner

It's 1916 and, in a small Yorkshire village, most of the town's menfolk have enlisted to fight overseas in the Great War.

Life in the town continues as normally as possible, but for the local choir master, Henry Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes), the number of male singers still left in the village has dwindled considerably.

More concerning still is that an end of year performance from the choir has been promised to the town.

With no other options and time running out, Henry recruits a group of untrained and variously talented teenagers to make up the numbers.

Though an exacting taskmaster, Henry is determined to find a way to get the best from his raw students and give the town a performance that brings joy to all in a time of war.

In Spain, the 1950s was a time of rapid industrialisation in the cities, with many rural regions left to fall into poverty. The result was a massive influx of villagers and immigrants into the outlying neighbourhoods of Spain's major cities.

Twenty years later, these neighbourhoods are still not considered part of the city by local government and many have no running water, electricity or even a basic bus service.

Manolo is one of thousands from the neighbourhood who's frustrated by the City Council’s claim that public transport can't reach the outlying districts due to unsafe roads.

Fed up, he decides to hijack the Route 47 bus and drive all the way to his neighbourhood to prove the council wrong. And by doing so, Manolo starts a movement.
