At 6pm, WFS will screen the brilliantly funny and moving film about the Art World starring Ian McKellen, The Christophers

Our 8pm screening is the NZ documentary that details how a rubbish dump was transformed into an international attraction, with A Time Traveller's Guide To Hamilton Gardens.

Barnaby and Sallie are the adult children of Julian Sklar, a once famous artist who has all but given up on his work and life.

Knowing their father is ill, they hit upon a plan to hire an art forger, Lori to be Julian’s assistant. Her mission will be to secretly complete a series of Julian's long-unfinished paintings, referred to as “the Christophers,” that he began in the 1990s, during the peak of his popularity.

If Lori can complete the paintings in Julian's "style", Barnaby and Sallie can then pass them off as originals and sell them for huge money after he dies.

Of course, that's assuming that Julian doesn't find out…

At 6pm, WFS will screen the NZ documentary that details how a rubbish dump was transformed into an international attraction, with A Time Traveller's Guide To Hamilton Gardens.

A TIME TRAVELLER'S GUIDE TO HAMILTON GARDENS

This documentary explores how a city rubbish dump was transformed into a collection of gardens that have become a major international attraction.

Masterminded by designer Peter Sergel and developed with the support of council, the local community and private sponsorship, Hamilton Gardens is now recognised as one of the great garden exhibits of the world.

It's also a Museum of Humanity. Each of the gardens reflects the beliefs, lifestyles and values of a particular era and the people who created it.

Visitors can experience gardens typical of 16th-century England, the Song Dynasty China, Ancient Egypt and the Italian Renaissance.

They can even see the imagined future of horticulture, from sustainable to surreal.

Pavel is a primary school teacher and videographer in a small Russian town. He learns he must make reforms to his curriculum by order of President Vladimir Putin.

The changes include a nationalist approach to education using state-approved propaganda. As such, Pavel witnesses the pressure on educators to force students to perform patriotic songs and military-themed activities.

Pavel's role evolves as he secretly films Putin's Education Policy in action. In doing so, he faces the possibility of imprisonment for his efforts to expose the truth in the face of an oppressive regime.

It is through her research that Ariadna learns of a remarkable young teacher from the 1930s by the name of Antoni. And Antnoi is the key to finding what she is searching for, as he was her great-grandfather's teacher.

In flashbacks to the 1930s, Antoni is very much an innovative teacher who inspires his students. More than that, Antoni made them a promise: to take them to his home town, 600km away, so they can see the sea.

Eghbal is driving at night with his wife and daughter, when he has an accident and is forced to get his car repaired.

As the car is being fixed, the sound of Eghbal's artificial leg reminds Vahid, the mechanic of the man who tortured him in prison.

Vahid follows Eghbal the next day, abducts him, drives to the desert and digs a grave in which to bury him. But Eghbal passionately denies being the man Vahid thinks he is.

So, Vahid gathers others who have memories of their tormentor to hear Eghbal testify and plead his case in front of them all.

It's 1920s Paris and composer, Maurice Ravel is at the height of his fame. But he's facing growing pressure from critics that his recent works lack emotion and sensuality.
