Based in Whangarei, Northland, New Zealand, Opera North was founded in 1996 by acclaimed opera singer and musical director Joan Kennaway QSM and her equally well known and esteemed husband Richard Kennaway QSM. d in 2012, following Margie’s retirement, Clare Henderson joined the team as a valued permanent accompanist. Opera North was established as a voluntary organisation dedicated to providing opportunities for its members and the community to enjoy the beauty of singing. The scope of these singing activities spans classical opera through to popular musical theatre. Structured as a Charitable Entity, Opera North is managed by a committee which is responsible for the financial and organisational management of the organisation. Within its objectives it seeks sponsorship to defray costs, enable ticket prices to be kept to a minimum and meet its commitment to donate any surplus funds to local charities. Since its inception, Opera North has had a strong community focus with members participating in many local concerts and over the years it has built up a very loyal following for its two major concerts - Opera in the Garden & Showcase.

We're excited to sing with Alfred Fuimaono and Ridge Ponini at Classics this week! Saturday evening, at Tahamoana Farm, bring a blanket and indulge yourself with a picnic or delicacies from the food stalls!

Classics, the brainchild of Debi and Dave at Tahamoana, supports young aspiriing singers and musicians by bringing them together with the rising stars of the New Zealand Opera scene! It's a magical event, (but don't forget your insect repellent!)
