TCDC have released a concept plan for the Omara Reserve at the Matarangi Wharf and are wanting public feedback, this is open until 26 October 2024. MRRAI have been one of the groups involved in the discussions and will be forwarding your feedback to TCDC.
Some of our ideas are included in the concept plan:
1) Having both beaches available for recreation and bollards installed to protect them from vehicles. Car and trailer parking away from beach/family areas
2) Upgrade of toilet facilities, funding already available
3) Limited freedom camping spaces retained as this has already been consulted on and decisions made, good to have an overnight presence (deterring vandalism)
4) Playground equipment
A covered BBQ and table could be another addition sited in area 8
No monies will be spent on the reserve until after the public consultation, we are hoping that bollards will be installed before the Christmas period to make the beach area and footpath safe.
