Hibiscus Coast Quilters

Hibiscus Coast Quilters Welcome to HCQ club, the local quilting and patchwork community membership group on the Hibiscus Coast Auckland. for around 90 minutes.

We welcome membership from stitchwork enthusiasts to meet other quilters and make friends. We meet twice a month, our morning meetings are on the 1st Tuesday of the month starting at 9.30 a.m. and our evening meetings are on the 3rd Wednesday of the month starting 7.30 p.m. We often have collaborative projects you can choose to participate in (this is optional) and can be a way of learning new skills. The output is normally a quilt of some description or style, these are donated to charity on a regular basis. In addition we make heart cushions for heart patients in hospital which you can, if you wish, work on, again another way to practice new skills. We have an extensive library of books, magazines and patterns for you to borrow. Every two years we have an exhibition of our work and invite the public to attend and enjoy the fruits of our endeavours.

Congratulations to our Visitors’ Choice Award winner, the beautiful “Caswell Quilt”! 🎉🏆

This is an absolutely stunning quilt in so many ways. The appliqué is detailed and beautifully executed, while the quilting enhances every element of the design and brings the whole piece together perfectly.

It is a wonderful example of the artistry and skill within our quilting community, and clearly captured the hearts of so many exhibition visitors.

And a huge thank you to everyone who visited the exhibition and took the time to cast their vote.

Thank you to absolutely everyone who attended our Show on 18th & 19th August. People came from
near and far despite a mixed bag of weather.

🤩Our Members are thrilled to hear it was very enjoyable and you, the community, appreciated our
creativity and supported our chosen charity, Hestia Rodney Women’s Refuge. The raffle quilt winner
has been advised and was thrilled. We will shortly be making a presentation to Hestia of the net
proceeds.

🪷The Viewer’s Choice had 580 votes cast and the winner was Liz Dombroski with her quilt ‘Eve’s Bali Pop’ by 8 votes. Her daughter can now receive her July birthday quilt.

There was one vote between the next three: Susan Pullum ‘ Anti-Viral Spirals’, Jill Porter ‘Owl Always Love You’, and Wendy Cohen ‘ Flutter By’. Congratulations to everyone.

🦉The winner of our Challenge Quilt (an interpretation of “Creatures and Critters”) was Wendy Cohen with her foundation pieced ‘Angry Owl Tawney Frogmouth’

👛The club winner of the Bag with the most votes (120) was Bev Montgomery with her beautiful wool embroidered flowers tote. The happy recipient travelled from Half Moon Bay to collect it last week.

We will be holding an Open Day in September for those who indicated an interest in joining at the Show. They will be contacted shortly.

Our website will be updated with Show photos and information shortly. A big thank you once again from the Show Committee and club members.
