Kia mataara e te iwi! Something important is coming up for Whanganui Iwi.

Soon, registered members aged 18 and over on the Whanganui Iwi Database will be asked to vote on an updated Trust Deed, the document that sets out how Ngā Tāngata Tiaki o Whanganui works for our awa and our people.

Why now? Ten years of experience, the feedback you gave us in our 2022 review, and changes in the law.

Over the coming weeks we'll explain exactly what's changing, what stays the same, and how to have your say. Keep an eye on this page.

Shortly, you should receive your voting pack in the post or by email, and information is now available on our website. The voting packs will be arriving in letterboxes and emails from next Friday 19 June.

Are you registered? It’s important you are registered, so please check with the office if your details have changed, or you’re not currently a member.

Te Ao Hou Marae was proud to host a special wānanga focused on weaving wahakura and raising awareness about S.U.D.I — Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy.
Wahakura are more than beautifully woven taonga. They carry mātauranga Māori, whakapapa, and practical protection for our pēpi, supporting safe sleep while keeping pēpi close to māmā, pāpā and whānau.
Through this kaupapa, we continue to strengthen whānau knowledge around safe sleeping, including placing pēpi on their back, keeping their sleep space clear, smokefree environments, and ensuring every pēpi has their own safe place to sleep.
We acknowledge Hāpai Te Hauora for their important mahi in promoting Māori health, pēpi wellbeing, and S.U.D.I prevention across our communities.

Ngā mihi to everyone who contributed, shared, wove, learned and supported this kaupapa. Together we protect our pēpi, uplift whānau, and keep our mātauranga alive.
