Some important messaging from our colleagues at The Equality Institute over in Melbourne about the importance of women-led networks and organisations and their impact upon social cohesion. The intersections of gender equality, climate change and conflict have profound implications, particularly for women and girls and gender diverse peoples. Political and social leadership must do better at understanding and recognising this.

"To end all forms of violence, we must address unequal systems of power together, and champion gender equality in all aspects of society.

"Our liberation is interconnected. It will take all of us."

Not only a legendary player but a true role model and humble human off the field.

Congrats, Portia. We love ya.

WOMEN WHO LEAD: CHRISTINA EMERY โœจ๐ŸŒˆ

Our monthly hour of power is heading your way next Tuesday! It's free to attend - refreshments can be purchased onsite. This month is our special Pride Week edition.

We are pumped to be chatting with Christina Emery โ€” she is proof that ADHD, q***r chaos and pure determination can, in fact, become a leadership style. From talking for a living on radio, to helping co-found and lead Pride Whanganui, to now running her own counselling private practice, Christina has spent most of her career accidentally saying โ€œyesโ€ to things before fully thinking them throughโ€ฆ and somehow making them work.

Weโ€™ll be speaking about leadership, community, burnout, backing yourself, and what happens when a woman with a microphone decides she wants to make change.

Expect honesty, humour, a few accidental tangents, and plenty of real talk about building community while trying to hold your own life together at the same time.

Women Who Lead is a partner initiative brought to you by our team and Sport Whanganui, with venue host support from the team at Barracks Sports Bar ๐Ÿ‘

RIP MARJANE SATRAPI โœจ

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Marjane Satrapi - artist, author, activist, director, revolutionary, and women's advocate. Her graphic novels were ground-breaking, notably the magical and powerful 'Persepolis' which also came to life in film.

As an outspoken critic of the Iranian government she was the target of threats because of her activism. Despite this, she charged on. Rather than living in fear, Marjane used her creativity as fire power.

What a life. We shall remain ever thankful for it, and for the stories she gave us that continue to capture hearts.

Family members said the author of the landmark comic book memoir โ€˜died of sadnessโ€™ after the death of her husband last year

CREATIVITY CALLING ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ–Œ๐ŸŽจ

Long weekends are perfect for many things. If you're feeling the call of creativity, why not enter something into our 'Wintering' themed exhibition for our upcoming Winter Wonderfest in August.

Photos, prints, paintings, sketches, sculptures, craft, mixed media...We are keen to see it all.

Thanks to our buddy Sarah at Space Studio & Gallery for this opportunity to organise another creative collab with our cool community ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿฅณ

A PRACTICAL TOOLKIT for New Zealand Workplaces

Sexual harassment affects 1 in 3 workers in Aotearoa. Often, by the time a problem is identified, the trust between kaimahi, customers, clients, and stakeholders is already broken.

The good news is that sexual harassment is preventable. Proactive steps and actions can add up to create workplaces where sexual harassment is less likely to happen.

Gender at Workโ€™s free toolkit is designed to help organisations prevent and respond well to sexual harm and change the story for future generations.

The Gender at Work Sexual Harassment Toolkit is a practical resource designed to support New Zealand employers to minimise the risk of sexual harassment in their workplace and to know how to respond when it does occur.
