The Society held the AGM in Christchurch last weekend and it was a great opportunity to recognize and celebrate the service and achievement of some of our members.

Viv Simmons and Fred Pilling received honorary life memberships for their service to the Society and the Clydesdale bred in New Zealand.

Viv is current North Island vice president, past president, past secretary, current senior judge, current Morrinsville A&P Show convenor and current breeder with Ashburn Clydesdale stud which has contributed so much to the bred in New Zealand.

Fred has been a councilor for 25 years, past North Island vice president, show and ploughing convenor, past multi time New Zealand horse ploughing champion, past long time Waikato Heavy Horse president, breeder with Fellbeck Clydesdale stud, and has exhibited and promoted the breed whilst teaching many how to work Clydesdales.

The Society awarded two gold medals this year for the Supreme Champion Clydesdale at the New Zealand Clydesdale Championships held in Christchurch 2025 and Morrinsville 2026.

Alan and Margo Vliet Vlieland not only won Supreme Champion Clydesdale with their stallion Goldenlane George, but also Champion Female with Goldenlane Nova, who won a Society silver medal.

Hillary Milne won Supreme Champion Clydesdale with her yearling filly Kia Kaha Chilli.

Gareth and Jacquie Pryce won a Society silver medal with Blackwood Crystal.

It’s a gorgeous morning here in mid Canterbury for the New Zealand Ploughing Finals, 3 horse teams have just completed their opening splits and the judging has begun.

A great turnout at the New Zealand Clydesdale Championships held at Morrinsville Show on Saturday.
Congratulations to Hillary Milne who owns and showed the 2026 New Zealand Champion Clydesdale and Society gold medal winner Kia Kaha Chilli.
What also made this special was three generations of the family were present and continuing the Ashburn line.
Congratulations also to Gareth & Jacquie Pryce who won Reserve Champion with Blackwood Crystal and a Society silver medal for best bred yearling or two year old, c**t or filly shown by exhibitor.

CLYDESDALE CLINIC

Hi everyone,

The society is running a day Clydesdale clinic at Christchurch RDA Building on Saturday 21st February starting at 10am.

Topics Covered:
• Breed standard
• Breed class assessments
• Ridden Clydesdale
• Harness

Horses and handlers are provided.

This event is free for members and RAS affiliates, $25 per person non members.
