A chook is a common and informal word for a chicken, especially a live chicken kept for eggs or farming. It also describes chicken meat.
e.g.
1. My neighbour in Aramoho keeps a few chooks in her backyard.
2. "Did you remember to feed the chooks before we left the house?"
3. "I’m too tired to cook tonight; let’s just grab a hot chook from the supermarket on the way home."
4. "We have three chooks that lay fresh eggs every morning."

A fad is something that becomes very popular for a short time. It is a short-lived trend that people get very excited about for a brief period before completely forgetting about it.
A fad can be about fashion, food, activities, or trends.
e.g.
1. People having ice-baths is probably just a fad.
2. Some diets are just fads and don’t last long.
3. Fidget spinners were a big fad in schools for a while.
4. Not every new trend is a fad — some things stay popular.

Vibe (noun, informal) - A vibe is the feeling or atmosphere of a place, situation, or person.
It describes how something feels, not what it looks like.
• If a place has a "good vibe," it feels welcoming, happy, or cool.
• If a place has a "bad vibe," it might feel uncomfortable, tense, or boring.
e.g.
1. Article café has a really chill vibe, don’t you think?
2. I love the vibe of this class — everyone is super friendly.

People usually get a flu jab once a year, especially before winter.

e.g:

2. Many people in New Zealand get a flu jab before winter starts.
3. My mum gets a free flu jab because she is over 65.

It can refer to schoolwork, a job, chores, or any kind of effort someone needs to do.
It’s a very common word used in everyday New Zealand English.
e.g.
1. I have a lot of mahi to do before lunchtime.
(I have a lot of work to do.)
2. The students finished their mahi quickly.
(They finished their tasks.)
3. Good mahi, everyone! You worked really hard today.
(Good work!)
4. My mahi today is to clean the house.
