Big Screen Symposium announces this great session! Have you got your tickets yet?

Tom Sainsbury and Holly Shervey are part of a growing wave of performers reshaping how screen careers are built, moving from auditioning for roles to creating work that reflects their own voice. In this conversation, they reflect on the origins of series including Crackhead and Small Town Scandal, and the creative and collaborative processes that brought them to screen. The session explores how actors can expand their craft, how producers might recognise and support emerging voices, and how building work around individual strengths can lead to more sustainable, audience-connected careers 🗣

Got a project you’re developing?
A story you can’t stop thinking about?
An idea you’re ready to back?

Film Bay of Plenty is offering two wildcard development awards of $750 at our upcoming industry event.

Up to five creatives will be selected to pitch their project live, with just two minutes each to tell us:

What are you making?
Why does it matter?
And what would this support help you unlock?

No polished presentation required.
No perfect project required.

Just bring your vision, your ambition, and your ability to communicate why this story needs to exist.

If someone asked you tomorrow what you’re working on and why it matters, could you answer in two minutes?

Then you’re ready.

Email: [email protected] answering the above questions by Wednesday, July 10, 2026.

*Pitcher's must be Bay of Plenty based.
