Eastern Bay of Plenty Riding for the Disabled Our riding clients range from pre-schools to 58 yrs. Branches of RDA are now well established & respected worldwide. There are 54 branches in NZ.

RDA provides interaction with horses to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for people experiencing disability, or who have specific challenges or needs, enabling them to have meaningful participation in, and contribution to, their community. Eastern Bay Of Plenty Riding For The Disabled is a part of a long established voluntary organisation and generous community support it can continue to deliver a wonderful service to the community. they benefit from fun filled and challenging therapeutic riding programme specifically designed for each rider. The Programmes help children and adults with disabilities to develop a love of horse riding while gaining self-confidence, social skills and physical strength. Whakatane and surrounding EBOP area schools, IHC and community services are just some of the people who benefit from our activities. EBOP RDA is affiliated to the NZRDA national office in Wellington.

Don’t let a little wet weather keep you away! 🌦️ There is still plenty to learn and enjoy at EBOP Riding for the Disabled.

On wet days, our riders can spend time getting to know our horses and learning some really important horse skills. 🐴

They can learn how to groom the minis, identify the different parts of the horse, and learn about the bridle and saddle and how they are used. 🧽🐎

It’s a great way to build confidence, learn new skills and develop a special connection with our horses, all while staying a little drier! 😊

So bring your raincoat, your curiosity and your smile! 🌈

Did you know there is research showing that hippotherapy (= horse riding therapy) can help improve balance, posture, coordination and movement? 🧠💪

Research published in Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology found improvements in postural control and balance, while a 2024 systematic review also reported improvements in motor skills, balance, coordination and muscle strength. 📚✨

At EBOP RDA, our riders are having fun, building confidence and working on important skills at the same time. 😊

Yesterday, our beloved Millie crossed over the rainbow bridge. 💔

Millie was a very special part of our EBOP Riding for the Disabled family, and she will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

A heartfelt thank you to the members of the public who have been in touch with your kind messages and support. We are also incredibly grateful to our wonderful veterinary team for their care, compassion and support for Millie.

She is now at peace, free from pain, and forever in our hearts. ❤️
