Whakatane Toastmasters Whakatane Toastmasters club helps develop communication and leadership skills through public speaking. Visitors are always welcome.

Whakatane Toastmasters meets fortnightly on a Monday from 7pm untill 9pm. We are a branch of Toastmasters International - a world leader in communication and leadership development. We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth.

After an incredible 10-year journey with Toastmasters, Willie has decided to take a well-earned break to focus on his Te Reo journey.

Like many members, Willie’s communication journey began with nerves, sweaty palms, and the courage to step well outside his comfort zone. Through dedication and perseverance, he grew into a confident and accomplished speaker, leader, and communicator whose example inspired and uplifted so many around him.

Throughout the years, Willie has generously served our club in several roles, including President, while also contributing in District leadership positions. Beyond the titles, he has been a valued mentor, encourager, and champion for countless members. His experience, wisdom, humour, and genuine commitment to helping others succeed have made a remarkable and lasting difference to our club community.

Willie, we celebrate all that you have achieved and the tremendous contribution you have made over the past decade. While you will be greatly missed, we are incredibly grateful for the time, energy, and heart you have shared with us.

As you embark on this exciting next chapter, we wish you every success on your Te Reo journey. We know you will embrace it with the same passion, dedication, and heart that have made such a positive impact on everyone around you, and we look forward to celebrating your future achievements.

🍂 Autumn at Toastmasters, What a Night! 🍂

We had a fantastic evening at Toastmasters with our Autumn themed meeting.

The table topics led by Willie were fun. Questions like “If you could write a letter to Summer, what would you say?” and “If you were a leaf, what would you say to the other leaves before you fell?” definitely kept everyone thinking on their feet.

Our prepared speech was delivered by John Twaddle, who spoke about Escapism and beautifully connected it to his lifelong love of the Mini Minor. It was thoughtfully and eloquently evaluated by Hannele, whose feedback was articulate and insightful.

A big well done to our newbies Shelley and Noti for their excellent Table Topics evaluations, showing fantastic listening skills.

It was also wonderful to have two guests join us, and even better that they both bravely stood up and delivered impressive table topics speeches that truly blew us all away!

Our Grammarian, Ian, was in fine form, sharing wisdom about the power of the pause to help avoid those pesky filler words like “ah” and “um.”

Patrick, our Timer, did a great job keeping us on track and providing helpful feedback.

We were also delighted to have our Area Director, Jenny Storey, visit along with her husband Keith — it was a real pleasure to have them with us.

And our President, Allan, stepped in as General Evaluator for the night, giving the meeting a big tick and rounding off the evening beautifully.

All in all, it was a night filled with learning, laughter, encouragement, and great speaking — a wonderful Toastmasters evening! 🍁

We're back and active every fortnight! 🎉

It's been a while since we posted, but we're excited to share that our meetings are running regularly - every second Monday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at St Johns, George Anglican Church meeting room, Domain Road.

Last night's meeting was fantastic! We welcomed some visitors, which was so inspiring to see - it's clear people are curious about what Toastmasters has to offer.

We're a small, friendly club that loves having new faces join us. Whether you want to build your communication skills or just meet some great people, we're here to help and have fun along the way.
