For as little as $35, help us save the historic Wolffs footbridge by supporting Wolffs Rd Footbridge Society Inc (WRFSI)

WRFSI MISSION

To benefit the community by advocating and promoting the restoration of the historic Wolffs Road Footbridge on the Eyre River and surrounds. And the enjoyment of it as a heritage attraction.

HISTORY

After a community meeting on 18 Feb 2025 a number of locals joined together to incorporate the Wolffs Road Footbridge Society on 19th March 2025.

WRFSI is a registered charity and on 23rd Jan 2026 signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Waimakariri District council.

This MOU sets out that council cannot pay for the restoration and the society will do the fundraising to achieve it.

THE BRIDGE

The bridge was built in 1947 using tram rails from Christchurch and cables from the War Department.

Built by H.G. Wolff as a crossing for when the Eyre River was in flood and the ford could not be used.

It was designed to carry the weight of
one horse, or one cow or sheep in single file.
