MUSEUM CLOSURE

The Albertland Heritage Museum will be closed on Thursday 10th September as our volunteers take time to attend the funeral of Mark Carrell, a very well-known and much-loved friend of many within our Museum family.

It is also our Annual General Meeting on Sunday 13th September, so our volunteers will be coming together on that day also for our AGM and the doors will once again be shut.

We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we take this time to remember a special friend and attend to Museum business.

Just a reminder of our opening hours for this week -
Wednesday 9th (11 - 3pm)
Thursday 10th (CLOSED)
Friday 11th (11 - 3pm)
Saturday 12th (11 - 3pm)
Sunday 13th (CLOSED)

We will look forward to returning to our normal opening hours next week.

Don't forget that everyone is welcome to join us at our AGM on Sunday 13th to be held at the Wellsford memorial RSA - inc. Our guest speaker will be Sean Harris talking about 'Boats on the Kaipara Harbour.'

You see Albertland Heritage Museum is looking for a team of two Volunteers who can work together one Saturday per month to do a 4 hour shift as visitor hosts. Training is provided and also a project to do while on duty to help preserve our history if you are interested.

Unfortunately, I can't take the credit for this wonderful article about local policeman Tommy Dale. The credit rightly belongs to our new history columnist, Diane Smith, who is now sharing the role of writing our local history features. Due to an oversight, Diane wasn't acknowledged as she should have been, and I would like to correct that.

Our opening week of the 'Shared Threads' exhibition has been a wonderful success, with lots of visitors coming through our doors. Thank you to everyone who has visited and supported this very special display.

'SHARED THREADS' Quilting Exhibition 27th June - 31st August 2026

We invite you all to come along and view our newest exhibition, "Shared Threads," celebrating the creativity and craftsmanship of the talented quilters from the Friday Crafters group, who meet each Friday at Clever Endeavours here in Wellsford.

On display are many beautiful, colourful quilts lovingly created by members of the group, alongside a number of treasured historic pieces from our own collection. Among them is our remarkable 200-year-old quilt, believed to have been brought to Albertland in 1862 as a cherished family heirloom by one of the early settler families. This exhibition has been curated by Sandra Berry who is a member of the group and a volunteer at Albertland Heritage Museum.

Whether you have a passion for quilts and quilting, an appreciation of local creativity, or simply want something bright and cheerful to lift these winter days, this exhibition is well worth a visit.

• Wednesday to Saturday: 11.00 am – 3.00 pm
• Sunday: 1.00 pm – 3.00 pm

Entry $5.00 Adults and Children Free

Our newest volunteer, Diane, has now become a contributor to the Mahurangi Matters regular History Column.

We are delighted to see her first story published this week, featuring the fascinating story of the Albertland Plummer family.

Writing local history for publication takes research, and attention to detail, and Diane has done a wonderful job bringing this family story to life.

We congratulate Diane on this achievement and thank her for helping to share and preserve the rich history of our district. We look forward to reading many more of her stories in the future.

Last weekend we opened our doors to everyone who wanted to see inside Albertland Heritage Museum and had a great day! Our volunteers work hard to create new displays and stories about the Albertland settlers for people to enjoy.

We also had some surplus books for sale which helped raise just over $500 which will help the museum immensely.

We still have some books left that can be viewed for the next few weeks. We are open Wed - Sat 11 to 3 and Sun 1 to 3.

If you are interested in any of these bundles let us know but remember PICK UP only at the museum - no postage option available. You can also purchase these books individually.
