Thank you all so much for the lovely messages and hundreds of likes/loves/tears. And especially to the people in Newlands who made so many trips around the block looking for him. We are so sad to have lost Jackson, but sharing the journey here has kept our hopes up this past week, and this page is a good memory of the many caring people who knew about his happy life.

We will get back to Newlands to take down the posters but if you see one, please feel free to put it in the bin for us. I have attempted to post a Live Photo of Jackson living his best life, as a final thank you to you all.

Much love
Nicolette and family

Update - it now looks like Jackson died peacefully of a heart attack while lying beside the tracks. We have seen him lying peacefully at the vets and we have told him what a wonderful pet he was.

Sadly not a good outcome for little Jackson. We were back in Newlands looking for Jackson when we got the very sad call that he had just been hit by a train at Ngauranga. So we get to say goodbye while he is still warm. Thanks for all the good wishes.

Another day without Jackson … it’s getting very hard to keep hoping in our house, particularly as he has now been 7 days without his heart medication. So, he may be living his life at the back of someone’s house, with food sources and water, or he may have passed away quietly in the bush somewhere. Either way we want to know. We will do an updated flyer and deliver to houses in the area tomorrow, and there will be an additional phone number too as I need to be away for a week. I will cancel if there are more sightings but it’s been more than 4 days now ☹️. Here are some South Island lupins and Jackson in the snow to make you smile.

This afternoon we tried a heat sensor camera near the last sightings, and I scrambled through some bush chasing rubbish bags. Please check under your decks and behind your compost heaps!

Here is a younger Jackson, showing off on his home turf. Please remember to ask neighbours returning from holiday to check their back sections for small old black dogs. 021 684 959

Not so orange as I thought. Here is the food culprit.

Sadly it wasn’t Jackson eating the food left out. It was an orange and white cat who has now also swallowed one of Jackson’s heart pills. Will post a picture of the cat later and keep hoping for sightings of Jackson. 🥱

No new sightings of Jackson today 😢. Thanks to all the kind and patient Newlands peeps who have been accosted by me and my missing dog picture on multiple occasions.

Tonight we have a motion camera set up because last night the food we left out for Jackson was all eaten. Fingers crossed it was him and not a cat that likes Royal Canin mini aging 12 + biscuits with enhanced palatability. I will be alerted and wake up to see. Watch this space.

It’s rubbish day here in Jackson’s part of Newlands, so keep an eye out for him, trying to scavenge in the bags. 021 684 959
