ASMS President Dr Katie Ben weighs in on ACT's campaign promise to scrap the Māori and Pasifika Admissions Scheme and similar programmes. MAPAS is designed to address the inequity of who gets into medical programmes - and it works, Dr Ben says.

The ACT promise comes as officials refuse to release the findings of a review into the programmes.

ASMS is backing calls from RANZCOG to urge the government to release the review in full.

An emergency department doctor is urging the University of Otago and Police to get tough after a party of 400 people in the city's quarter left one person with serious injuries and others having to be treated for alcohol and drug-related harm.

The party comes less than a week after a Coroner warned students about excessive alcohol consumption following the death of a 20 year old who choked on his own vomit at a Dunedin party in 2023.
