What a truly proud and memorable moment for Vitasta NZ Kashmiri Trust !

We were incredibly honoured and proud to perform at the welcome reception for the Hon. Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi and present our traditional Kashmiri folk dance "Rouff", at the Kia Ora Modi community event in Auckland in front of 12000+ Indian diaspora.

Seeing our culture celebrated on such a large stage, alongside so many members of the Indian community, was a moment we will always cherish.

For our performers, volunteers, and everyone who supported us, this was more than just a performance, it was an opportunity to showcase our heritage with pride and be part of a historic visit. Thank you to everyone who made these moments possible.

Vitasta NZ – Logo Description

The Vitasta NZ logo is a powerful visual representation of our heritage, identity, and values. At its heart is a flowing, river-like form, symbolising Vitasta - the ancient and original name of the Jhelum River in Kashmir, which has sustained our civilisation for centuries. This flow reflects continuity, resilience, and the enduring journey of the Kashmiri Pandit community across time and geography.

The logo also speaks deeply to our connection with our roots. Even while living far from our homeland, the flowing river reminds us that we remain spiritually and culturally connected to Kashmir - carrying our traditions, language, and values with us wherever we go.

The presence of the sacred Aum (ॐ) symbol highlights our deep spiritual foundation and connection to Sanatan traditions, representing peace, unity, and universal consciousness. The prominent use of saffron tones holds special significance - it represents sacrifice, purity, courage, and spiritual devotion; values that are deeply embedded in our history and identity. It also reflects the spirit of renunciation and resilience that has helped our community endure and rebuild through challenging times. The blending of these warm saffron and gold hues with cool blues and teals signifies a balance between tradition and modern life, as well as the harmony we strive to foster within our community and in the diverse society of Aotearoa New Zealand.

The circular form and spiral elements convey continuity, renewal, and the cyclical nature of life - echoing both our enduring culture and our ability to adapt and thrive despite the challenges of displacement. The outer mandala-like border adds a sense of completeness and sacredness, reinforcing our commitment to preserving and promoting our cultural identity.

Together, the logo reflects who we are: a community deeply rooted in heritage, spiritually grounded, resilient in the face of change and adversity, and committed to staying connected to our origins while building a strong, inclusive future in New Zealand.

Celebrating Herath in Wellington
We are delighted to share highlights from our recent Shivratri (Herath) celebration held at the High Commission of India, Wellington. It was truly a memorable evening, with an incredible turnout and a vibrant community spirit.
The event beautifully showcased the rich traditions and cultural heritage of Kashmir. Through soulful songs, engaging performances, and insightful presentations, attendees experienced a glimpse into how Herath is celebrated by Kashmiri Pandits.
It was heartwarming to see such enthusiastic participation and appreciation from everyone present. The performances were thoroughly enjoyed, and the cultural storytelling helped deepen understanding and connection with our roots.
Guests also enjoyed a delicious spread of traditional food, adding an authentic and flavourful touch to the celebrations.

Greeting to our Vitasta NZ family,

Herath Poshte!

As we welcome Vatuk Nath into our homes today, we celebrate not just the divine union of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati, but also the unbreakable spirit of our community.

While we may be far from the snow-clad peaks of our homeland, the warmth of Herath brings us together right here in Aotearoa, New Zealand. It’s a beautiful reminder that home is where our traditions are kept alive and where our community gathers.
