Look, it may have dark themes and be out of this world but it’s still classed as a comedy, and who doesn’t like a bit of dark humour?

To help nail down this clue we should note that this show falls under the genre of comedy, we don’t just mean that because there is one funny song that it gets to stay. Master of the House does not make Les Mis a comedy, consistent and deliberate humour does.

Let’s confirm another few shows that should already be on your knock out list:

- Regina may be savage but not quite enough to call Mean Girls “”dark”” not to mention it’s definitely a 21st Century icon, so that’s gone.
- Next To Normal is defintitely dark, and a great rock musical to boot, but it’s never been turned into a film.
- Grease, the 20th Century, rock musical turned movie musical ticks a lot of boxes but the only thing other worldly is the flying car at the end and do we really count that bit? I dunno, feel free to argue that in the comments but either way, Grease is not the word for 2027

We’re back with more clues! Today we get to learn who knows their musical theatre history because this show was originally produced in the 20th Century.

To clarify, the STAGE production is from the 20th Century. Some shows are based on books or films that are older but didn’t hit the stage until more recently so don’t get confused between your media’s.
