More exciting shows are on the way this June! Tune in to Wellington Access Radio 106.1FM from 5pm to hear what’s coming up.

First up from 5.05pm, Julien Van Mellaerts joins me ahead of New Zealand Opera’s season of The Marriage of Figaro at the St James Theatre next week. Julien’s playing Count Almaviva – we’ll chat about stepping into one of opera’s great roles and what audiences can expect from this Mozart classic.

Then just after 5.20pm I’m joined by Tamati Moriarty and Paige Wilson to discuss their critically acclaimed show Waenga. Te Rākau and Hurō Productions have expanded this story of systemic violence, racism and hope with their Theatre Marae flair, bringing more songs, action and deeply important kōrero. Waenga opens at the new Toi Pōneke on Market Lane from next Friday before touring to 19 venues across the lower North Island.

Te Rākau have been facilitating our annual whakapapa workshops with rangatahi across Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

These workshops empower rangatahi through kaupapa Māori performing arts, creative learning, and mentorship.

Using our theatre marae model, rangatahi develop confidence, leadership, and hauora by uniting performance, wānanga, and whanaungatanga.

Whakamanatia te rangatahi, ka whakakaha i te hapori.
