The Annual General Meeting of NZSLFS, held on 24 May 2026, was successfully concluded with the participation of members and invited guests.

The AGM provided an excellent opportunity to reflect on the achievements and activities of the past year, while strengthening the unity , growing membership and vision of the organisation. Members commitment, our activities and valuable support via grants and sponsorship was key to continued growth and success of NZSLFS. A sincere thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making the event a great success.

Congratulations to the newly elected President, Maheshan David, and the incoming committee. A special thank you to outgoing President Mahes Hettige and committee members for their valuable service, dedication, and contributions towards the ongoing success of NZSLFS.

It was an honour to represent the New Zealand Sri Lanka Friendship Society at the opening of the new Sri Lanka High Commission in Wellington today. It was a pleasure to meet Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister, Hon. Vijitha Herath, who is currently on a state visit to New Zealand.

The event was attended by New Zealand Foreign Minister Hon. Winston Peters, and hosted by Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Prasanna Gamage, attended by members of the diplomatic corps and invited guests.

A wonderful occasion celebrating the strong and growing friendship between New Zealand 🇳🇿 and Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

NZSLFS was able to help so many deserving church parishioners in Chilaw area with our disaster relief donation to those affected by the recent floods. In the photos we are seeing parishioners receiving support to purchase shoes for school children effected by floods and dry rations for elders. Thank you to members who contributed to this worthy cause.

Cyclone Relief

As many of you may already know, Sri Lanka is facing severe flooding that has left families displaced and communities devastated. During moments like this, we must come together as a community and offer our support to those in need. NZSLFS is organising its own flood relief fundraising initiative to assist affected families. We kindly invite all members to contribute to this effort by making a donation to the Society’s dedicated relief fund.

Donations can be made to:
NZSLFS Bank Account: 02-0536-0017388-000
Reference: Relief funds

Funds collected, including contributions pledged at our Christmas function and an additional donation from NZSLFS, will be directed to a suitable charitable organisation or community church providing the ground support to impacted families. Details will be shared with members shortly. Your generosity, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference. Thank you for standing with our Sri Lankan community during this difficult time.

Warm regards,
Mahes Hettige
