One of the strongest messages to emerge from IAIA26 is that impact assessment is becoming a profession of judgement, not just process.

The profession is moving:
• from compliance to governance
• from consultation to collaboration
• from project-level thinking to systems thinking
• from isolated projects to cumulative effects
• from technical communication to trust-building

Technical rigor remains essential, but the future value of impact assessment lies in helping society navigate complexity, uncertainty, and difficult decisions.

The next webinar in our 2026 series is coming up on Thursday 25 June at 12 noon.

This webinar will explore the role of Social Impact Assessment (SIA) in predator free and conservation projects through the lens of Predator Free Chathams—one of the most ambitious inhabited-island restoration programmes undertaken in Aotearoa New Zealand. It will cover: what is SIA, why SIA for predator free and conservation projects, and the experience from the Chathams project team of an SIA.

Our webinars are free to members (though you do need to register), and if you can't attend on the 25th June, you can access the recording later.
