Safe Food Campaign NZ

Safe Food Campaign NZ We provide consumers with information so they can make up their own minds about what is safe to eat. We campaign for safer healthier food.

We promote organic farming and sustainability. We typically deal with issues that regulatory authorities, for various reasons, do not want to deal with, such as additives, especially aspartame and MSG, pesticide residues, genetic engineering, irradiation, fluoride and more recently plastics.

Confused about which product to pick on the supermarket shelves? You don't understand the label? What product is better and more nutritious? An easy rule to follow: LESS IS MORE. The longer the ingredient list, the more you have to be suspicious. Thanks,

Thanks, Wild Botanica for this post: find out more about miner's lettuce (claytonia perfoliata) and how useful it is, especially in winter. A winter garden treasure, often called Spring Beauty, Winter Purslane, or Poor Man’s Lettuce, this delightful wild green is flourishing in my garden right now and I’m loving every bite.
With its crisp, juicy texture and bright green glow, Miner's Lettuce is a beautiful burst of vitality in winter meals. It adds not only flavor and color, but also a nourishing touch of the wild. A cool season cousin of Purslane, this plant truly shines when the weather turns cold.
How to Use It: Think of it as wild lettuce, mild, tender, and perfect raw. It’s ideal in fresh salads, where its delicate flavor and crunchy bite can be fully appreciated. You can cook it, but it tends to lose its sparkle when wilted. Only the leafy parts above ground are eaten.

The mind-blowing benefits of a lemon: in this video Dr. Eric Berg focuses on flavonoids and eriocitrin in particular. He also suggests a lemon drink you can make. When you make a drink from the whole lemon, just be sure it is organic. In NZ the one pesticide residue test that has been done showed up an array of pesticides it is better to avoid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5oLfvDduMQ

Organic wineries feature prominently in the top 50 of NZ wineries, as judged by the online wine critic platform The Real Review. In fact, of the top 10, seven are certified organic and/or biodynamic, and the other three follow organic practices or are transitioning to organic. The top spot was taken by Bell Hill in Waipara, Canterbury, owned by Sherwyn Veldhuizen and Marcel Giesen. The annual top wineries list recognises excellence across the country, more than 4000 wines are tasted and reviewed blind over a period of two years, receiving an overall score.

Did you know that today is International Day of Potato, a crop that has shaped history and nourished billions. Potatoes are remarkable — adaptable, sustainable, and incredibly versatile. They thrive in different climates, are versatile and delicious as well as provide essential nutrients. Potatoes are native to the Andes, where people first started growing them domestically thousands of years ago. In NZ we have a wide variety available, many of them carefully grown and maintained by for more than 30 years.
