One week until our conference … time to announce our final speaker — Wendy Aldred KC! ⭐️

Wendy is Wellington based Kings Counsel with a practice in civil litigation, public law and professional disciplinary matters. She has been a civil legal aid provider for many years and has conducted significant human rights litigation, including for refugees and prisoners. She appears before the courts at all levels as well as in the Waitangi Tribunal and other specialist jurisdictions. She is also regularly engaged by public sector agencies to conduct independent reviews and assist major inquiries.

🚨CONFERENCE UPDATE🚨

ALWU is proud to announce our keynote speaker—Sandra Grey, President of the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions. Sandra has been active in unions for over 30 years, including two decades in leadership roles with Te Hautū Kahurangi | New Zealand Tertiary Education Union.

We are so excited to hear Sandra’s insights and experience from her years in the union movement! It will give us all a chance to reflect on what changes we can make to our profession and how those changes can enable better justice in our communities.

ALWU is proud to announce that tickets to our Inaugural Conference are now live! ⭐️

The theme this year is “Doing Justice in Aotearoa”, in which we aim to explore how systems and structures within our profession enable us—and prevent us—from doing justice in our communities ⚖️

We have incredible speakers lined up, including Justice Cheryl Gwyn, Dhilum Nightingale and Asher Emanuel (with more to be announced 👀). The conference also provides 2 hours of CPD!

Many legal workplace offer bonuses for their workers, but very few respondents reported receiving a bonus in the last year. A high proportion of workplaces with bonuses only give out bonuses at the employers discretion.
