The Plunket Wellington gardens in Johnsonville are looking beautiful again thanks to some hard work by Altrusa Ohariu & Johnsonville Lions Club on a beautifully sunny Sunday morning!

A big THANK YOU to the 14 volunteers who worked hard for two hours and generated a load of green waste for the local tip 💪

We were delighted to win the Mamie L Bass Service Award at the national Altrusa conference this weekend for our Stationery for Schools project.

Stationery for Schools was a community literacy initiative designed to collect reusable stationery and distribute it to local schools to support students and teachers who may otherwise lack access to adequate supplies. Donations were collected at the end of the school year, sorted by club members, and redistributed to primary and intermediate schools across the wider Ohariu area.

Our Club President Yolanda (centre) received the trophy, we'll receive a US$100 prize, and our winning entry will be submitted to the international competition too! Thanks to everyone in the community who supported this project 💙

Our national Altrusa conference was held in Wellington this weekend. A highlight was the club-based challenge to create an attractive display of food items for donation to The Wellington City Mission social supermarket. We went for a red theme and donated a train of non-perishable food and a few other things! 🚂

Thanks to the conference organisers from Altrusa International District Fifteen New Zealand for a fantastic weekend ❤️

It was our pleasure to run the outdoor games and circus rotations at the Girl Guiding Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington event on the Wellington waterfront yesterday, with support from Johnsonville Lions Club . By the end of the day Hannah was confidently explaining how to use stilts and grass skis and Helen had worked out how to anchor the Connect 4 so that the wind didn't blow it away! 😆 Thanks to all involved in making this event a success!

Many hands make light work! It was great to help out Girl Guiding Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington this afternoon 🙌

An article in the Independent Herald yesterday to encourage donations to our school stationery collection. Drop-off at Churton Park Community Centre, Tawa Community Centre, or Khandallah Town Hall so that your unused items can be put to good use in the New Year!

The amazing Altrusa International of Ohariu are doing their stationery drive again! This drive may save you from discovering food in the school bags in January!

There are so many items that are needed and are listed in the image below.

There are also items that are not needed. Last year we had people being super helpful in EOY office clean outs. The large lever arch files, or cabinet files aren't easy to rehome and too hard to store so this year I will not be accepting them at CPCC.

If you have a big load of items, or items not on the list please email [email protected] to confirm where to drop them off.

There were smiling faces at Linden School Tawa when we delivered 105 brand new non-fiction books last week! Altrusa purchased three bundles of 35 books that cover Stage 1 - 6 of the curriculum for junior readers. A big thanks to Altrusa International Foundation, Inc. for supporting this donation as part of our Books for Bright Futures project 🙌
