As part of Keep New Zealand Beautiful Clean Up Week, we picked up rubbish from around the Grasslees Reserve area in Tawa. Seven Altrusa volunteers collected four bags of waste over a couple of hours. Thanks to Yolanda for organising 🙏

On Saturday six Altrusans supported He Huarahi Tamariki - HHT School for Teenage Parents, Wellington, NZ by cataloguing the fiction, biographies & autobiographies in their school library. 📚

A retired teacher from the school has led the work to remove outdated titles, categorise the books by genre, and reshelve into a new system. Our role was to support data entry into the new online library catalogue, which we were very happy to do!

As part of our last Altrusa International Foundation, Inc. grant we purchased a hard drive and literacy resources for the school. It's great to continue our partnership.

Our friends at Orange Sky Aotearoa are seeking people to join their Johnsonville team on a Wednesday (10.30am - 1pm) as regular volunteers (able to commit to a shift on average every 2-3 weeks). They offer new potential volunteers the opportunity to visit a shift to see what it's like before you commit. Please get in touch with OrangeSky if you can help 🫶

More copies of Ete fixes the Glitch were delivered to schools across Porirua this morning. We're delighted to be donating this book to 43 schools in our area. 💙

We love this feedback from a school librarian's who received the book: "Thank you very much for your kind donation to our school library. The bright colours will catch the eye of our students and I'm sure it'll be a popular choice. We have a number of Pasifika students who love seeing their stories in print, and building the collection of Pasifika stories is a priority for me." 🫶

On a cold Wellington morning, three Altrusans went to visit Kiwi Community Assistance to learn more about their operations and understand how we might support them over the coming months. 🫶

Namulau‘ulu Nu’uali’I Eteroa Lafaele is a Forbes 30 Under 30 honouree, Young New Zealander of the Year 2025, NZ Hi-Tech Young Achiever 2024 and proud Sāmoan Software Engineer from Cannon’s Creek, Porirua.

Eteroa wrote Ete Fixes The Glitch to show Pacific rangatahi that their ideas and creativity can shape the future of technology. The story celebrates her belief that representation matters — when Pacific kids see themselves as innovators, they begin to believe they can lead in tech too.

Altrusa Ohariu are proud to support Eteroa and Fibre Fale with their mission to ensure Ete Fixes The Glitch reaches every primary school across Aotearoa — ensuring every child can see themselves reflected in the future of tech.
