Pipitea Marae & Function Centre
Wellington’s traditional urban marae is in the heart of the city and at the heart of our culture. Pipitea Marae was built in the early 1980s to meet the needs of the urban Māori population of Wellington and where traditional kawa and protocol are observed. In 2009, the Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust and the Ngāti Poneke Māori Association Inc created a partnership where they offer the Marae to be used and embraced by all. Pipitea Marae continues to signify a place for people of all iwi and races to meet.
Pipitea Marae and Function Centre is managed by Manaaki-The Wellington Functions Team. Renovations to the exterior, saw the Pipitea Marae Atea (outside area) place second in the "Innovation Public Open Spaces" category of the Wellington Civic Trust awards 2014. The internal renovations bring it up to a modern and fresh venue, ready for all styles of events. This function facility is ready and waiting to host your event. Full onsite food and beverage services, make this venue a one-stop shop for numerous styles of events and functions. -Banquet 500 (set menu), 400 (buffet) -Cocktail 750 -Classroom 200 -Theatre 600 -Concert 750 -Exhibition as needed
Cultural Services
Lead by our Cultural Services team, Kura Moeahu (Trustee) and Ngati Poneke, we can arrange your pōwhiri or mihi whakatau to open your event, with a welcome by the mana whenua. The marae is there to then accommodate all your function needs. We will discuss this service with you upon enquiry,
