We did it! 🌱🪡
The Sowing and Sewing (Sembrar y Coser) collective recently held an exhibition of our textile reflections. On 21 March, we gathered at the Pyramid Club to share our textile creations and to host a beautiful, open kōrero with wider members of the Latin American community in Wellington.
Together, we explored what it means for us, as Latin Americans, to stand in solidarity with Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
As we stitched the final threads of this project, we also sought to plant seeds that will continue to grow new ways for Latines to contribute to strengthening Māori Tino Rangatiratanga and to building Tiriti‑informed futures where tangata whenua and the many peoples and communities who call Aotearoa home, can truly thrive.
This deeply personal, political, creative, and transformative project would not have been possible without the support of The Latin Collective, OCA Our Colours in Aotearoa, the Ethnic Communities Development Fund, and Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington.
We are also immensely grateful to our families, friends, and loved ones who supported us throughout this journey.
Looking ahead to what comes next, the seeds are now planted.

¡Lo logramos! 🌱🪡
El colectivo Sowing and Sewing (Sembrar y Coser) realizó recientemente una exhibición con nuestras reflexiones textiles. El 21 de marzo nos reunimos en el Pyramid Club para compartir nuestras creaciones textiles y para abrir un hermoso y generoso kōrero con integrantes de la comunidad latinoamericana en Wellington.
En este encuentro reflexionamos colectivamente sobre qué significa como latinoamericanes, posicionarnos en solidaridad con Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Mientras dábamos las puntadas finales a este proyecto, también buscamos sembrar semillas que sigan creciendo y abriendo caminos para que, como latines, podamos contribuir a fortalecer el Tino Rangatiratanga Māori y a construir futuros informados por el Tiriti, en los que tangata whenua y todas las gentes y comunidades que habitan en Aotearoa, puedan florecer.
