What day is it? oh yeah Monday! And what does that mean? Quiz promo time!
This week we're looking at IS9 - Working Near Civil Disturbances

PS, it appears Google forms in the quiz still isn't sending emails to FENZ addresses or the FENZ network isn't allowing them. FENZ IT seems to think this isn't a problem at their end, but who knows....Google don't seem to want to know, so as a workaround we suggest using a non-FENZ email address (gmail or hotmail maybe) and forwarding the email on to your STC from here. Sorry team, we hope to have something new in place soon!

Here's a good read for a Wednesday afternoon!

Paul McGowan recounts a case study of thermal runaway on the campus of Notre Dame University, the fire department response, and preparation for these incidents.

Ah, Traffic Management, the bane of many of our lives (however its the way NZFBI VP Phil attempts to make a living!)
This weeks quiz covers off the OI for Traffic Control and Roadway Safety: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdsevsGcOwn4thGXYFiMzwQ82auZOHRFFt_7LtV0SoZpF6beg/viewform?usp=header

As firefighters, I can almost guarantee that we have all had a close call with some moronic motorist who has somehow failed to see the big red truck, (and possibly an ambulance, Police car etc) flashing lights, cones, traffic wands, high-vis and people giving directions because they're either glued to their phone, paying zero attention, too busy trying to gawk at the crash/fire/emergency etc, they are in their own little world or in so much of a rush to get somewhere that an emergency is just an utter inconvenience.... I guess what I'm saying is be safe, be alert, and remember, there's always a muppet around somewhere!

It appears that FENZ IT may be blocking the emails being sent from the OSM quiz submissions ([email protected]) to FENZ email addresses - We have raised a IT Support Ticket with them (feel free to do the same, if we all make noise, it might fix the problem faster...)

As a workaround, if you enter a non-FENZ email address, you can then (hopefully) forward or screenshot the results and pass these on to your STC or Officer who needs to know when you have completed a quiz!

thanks
Andrew

Here's a good (and quick) read for a Friday:
https://www.fireengineering.com/firefighting/firefighter-health/the-fire-is-out-the-exposure-is-not/

This really rings true, as literally just this morning I was digging through the ashes of a house fire, all togged up in my ARP, barrier coveralls and wearing my PGM, thinking about how bad this exposure can be for our health...
Set a good example, look after yourself, and look after your mates

Keep safe out there!
Andrew

The photo looks like a win. The fire is knocked down, the crew is tired and proud, and someone snaps a picture for the department’s social feed. Helmets

A good reminder here!
