A meaningful moment from our Counties Manukau hui 🙌🌱

Team Leaders Jane, Deborah and Maylene led a session on wellbeing and self-care, sharing openly about their upbringing, whānau and personal journeys.

Through kōrero, singing, yoga and mili mili, patia, they created a space that was honest, warm and energising.

They reminded us that wellbeing-first starts with how we make time for ourselves, and each other.

Thank you Jane, Deborah and Maylene for leading this kōrero with such openness 💛

Stalking and harassment is now a crime in Aotearoa New Zealand.

This is an important step.

Stalking is a pattern. It may build over time. It can be repeated messages, being followed, or watched. It could be being tracked, threatened, or the damage of property.

It can completely change how safe someone feels.

If this is something you're experiencing right now, it is not your fault. And you don't have to work out what to do next on your own.

Victim Support is here 24/7 for people directly affected by crime, including whānau and witnesses. Our support is free, and available even if you have not reported to Police.

Call us any time on 0800 842 846.

Victim blaming is often unintentional. But the harm is real.
If someone confides in you that they've been a victim of crime, just say "it's not your fault."
Because crime happens because of criminals.

Too often, victims are blamed for what they were wearing, where they were, who they are, or the choices they made.

But the truth is simple:

It’s not your fault.

Crime happens because of criminals - not victims.

Today, on International Day Against Victim Blaming, we’re asking New Zealanders to help change the script.

Victim blaming causes real harm.
It can add shame, deepen distress, and stop people from reaching out for help or reporting crime.

Crime happens because of criminals - not victims.

If someone tells you they’ve been affected by crime, just say:
“It’s not your fault.”

Most victim blaming comes from people victims know.

Our research found family and friends were the most common source.

And 52% of those who had reported crime to Police said victim blaming would stop them reporting again in future.

This is not harmless. It can deepen the impact of crime and stop people seeking help.
