This World Refugee Day, we’re excited to give you a first look at Tūrangawaewae, Our Place of Belonging.
In partnership with Immigration New Zealand, the New Zealand National Refugee Youth Council is proud to share the trailer for Tūrangawaewae, an innovative new multimedia platform that will soon help refugee youth better understand life in New Zealand before and after arrival.
For years, young people have told us that when they arrive in New Zealand, they often know very little about what life here actually looks like. While information is available for parents, many young people arrive without a clear understanding of their new communities, the opportunities available to them, or what everyday life as a young person in New Zealand might be like.
Our multimedia platform will feature videos, interviews, stories and practical information designed to help refugee youth better understand life in New Zealand. Young people will be able to explore all 13 refugee resettlement locations and experience them through the eyes of refugee youth already living in those regions
Our innovative approach places refugee youth at the centre of the story and represents a world first approach to refugee orientation and settlement support. We are proud to be one of the only refugee youth led organisations in the world.
This is just a first look at Tūrangawaewae, and we look forward to sharing more with you in the coming months.
A special thank you to everyone who has been involved in bringing this project to life so far, especially our Strategic Team, our Multimedia Lead, our Youth Engagement Lead, and the many refugee young people and team members who have contributed their ideas, experiences and passion to create something truly by refugee youth, for refugee youth.
